This is, you know, Arendt begins this whole book on the life of the mind by saying she's not a philosopher, and there's a certain arrogance for someone like her to write this book. And you can imagine, you know, someone saying, God, you were under, you were, you, you, that was a, you know, that was an understatement, you know, to now say that, okay, most philosophers don't talk about freedom, but to the extent they talk about freedom, they talk about it through the will. And we're going to go through this whole history of how philosophers connect freedom to the will. And then she, at the end, they were all wrong, but I'm not a philosopher, you know, is a kind of a bold statement.

And I know it's hard to jump back into a text after three weeks off. Especially a text this complicated in which the last chapter, you know, makes you dizzy with Nietzsche and Heidegger. I know the last time I taught this book on the Virtual Reading Group, we spent three weeks on these four chapters. And today, we're going to spend one week on them because we wanted to try and get going on a new book next week on revolution. Those of you who read to the end of this book, of Life of the Mind, know that in many ways, it's a perfect segue. Anyway, the life of the mind ends, right, by raising again the question of action and of freedom in action.

另外一本就是这本心智生活Life of the Mind.

Those are important dates because, as many of you know, in 1933, Heidegger joined the Nazi party.
