People are often eager to give advice, but those same people are usually not as eager to engage in the kinds of self-discipline that they would advise. Everyone's hypocritical to some degree. And the reason is that we are often constitutionally incapable of confronting our own faults and of seeing our own motives to what they are. But we can see them in other people, right? Oftentimes the vices underlying the actions of others can be immediately clear to us, but they're not clear when we consider ourselves in our own actions.

So why should it be the case that we take pleasure in it when we see the faults of others? Why do we like to see imperfections in, you know, frankly, our loved ones and our friends? You know, we can come up with some sentimental gooey response that it reminds us that they're human or something like that. The Rochefacco, the answer would be that it inflates our feeling of being justified in our self love. And not because we want to like place ourselves above them, this is not necessarily that certainly could be the case.

The Rochefacco, the answer would be that it inflates our feeling of being justified in our self love. And not because we want to like place ourselves above them, this is not necessarily that certainly could be the case. Look at it this way, if you're aware that you have your own imperfections, when you perceive them and others, it allows you to forgive yourself for them. It allows you to feel better about your own faults. And so that's why it's like it's our having faults that leads to our taking pleasure in others people's faults.
